Bridges, Beijing, and Bold Beginnings: A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

I’ve walked the busy streets of Sanlitun in Beijing and navigated the crowds along the Bund in Shanghai. For twelve years, China was my home. During that time, I saw brilliant students work tirelessly, only to arrive at Canadian or American universities and feel completely lost. They had the grades, but they didn’t have the “cultural keys” to unlock their new life.

Now, as a father to three—a 21-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 6-month-old—I understand the weight of your decisions. You aren’t just looking for an English course. You’re looking for a partner who will protect your investment and your child’s future.

The Expat Edge: Why We’re Different
Most programs treat every student like a number in a mass-market database. They offer a “one-size-fits-all” curriculum that ignores the specific hurdles a Chinese student faces. At GLOBE, we do things differently:

  1. Cultural Connection: I lived in your cities for over a decade. I understand the specific linguistic roadblocks that Mandarin speakers encounter.
  2. Classroom Comedy and Creative Confidence: My background as a drama teacher and stand-up comedian means our lessons are never a slog. If a student is laughing, they’re learning. We use performance techniques to build the bravery needed for high-pressure university seminars.
  3. Mentorship, Not Just Marketing: You aren’t dealing with a faceless corporation. You’re dealing with a teacher and a dad who treats your child’s success as his own.

Building a Bridge to the Great White North
Our mission is to ensure that when your child lands in Canada, they aren’t just “surviving”—they’re leading. We move past simple vocabulary and focus on the high-level academic, cultural, and social skills required for top-tier success.

Real-World Readiness: We practice the actual social and academic scenarios they will face in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal.

I’ve been where you are, and I’ve been where they’re going. Let’s build their bridge to Canada together.

Warmly,
Bryan Johnston, Co-founder, GLOBE Program
Former High School Teacher, Current Dad, and Your Partner in Success
